Montpellier is located in the south of France and is the fastest growing city in France. It blends the classic hotels (mansions) area with the newly designed Antigone quarter. It is famous for it’s large communal central square (place de la Comédie) and academic heritage.

Hotels are easy to find in Montpellier and many of them are found in the streets of the main central square, or on the numerous streets close to the city centre. Many of the hotels are slightly older and are housed in classic style buildings, there are however, numerous international hotels available in all parts of the city.

Both the food and drink in Montpellier are heavily influenced by the Mediterranean. Saffron, fish and regional herbs are present heavily, as are mussels and tomatoes. Take your time to choose a restaurant carefully as some of the seafood restaurants can be very expensive.

The Montpellier Follies (châteaux) surround the city and are well worth a trip to see them. Most of them are still family homes and don’t offer tours but it is a chance to see the wealthier rural side of France from the 18th and 19th century. Place de la Comédie, Musée Fabre, Porte du Peyrou and the Antigone District are also all worth a visit and are easy to find and well sign posted.

Montpellier is home to a wide range of professional sports teams including Montpellier HSC (football), Montpellier Herault RC (rugby) and Montpellier Vipers (Ice Hockey). It also regularly hosts stages of the Tour de France cycling race.
