From Tangier take the N2 south-east to Tétouan, where the road merges with the N13. Continue south on the N2/N13 through Souk-el-Arba-des-Beni-Hassan towards Chefchaouen, regarded by many as a beautiful and atmospheric town from which to explore the mountains. Tangier to Chefchaouen is about 50 miles.

Drive north-east out of Tangier on the 416. About one mile after the 416 meets the N13, and just on the outskirts of Ceuta, a road heads north-west towards Beliones Playa Blanca, looking towards Gibraltar. One for the intrepid, it's about 25 miles from the city.
