Hiring a car in Miami is such a popular thing to do that the rental desks have now moved out of the main airport building and into one which is purpose-built to cope with demand. Once you’ve landed and collected your luggage, head to the airport’s third floor where you’ll find the 'M.I.A Mover’. This monorail system takes passengers directly from the airport to the car rental station just 1 mile away.
What should I buy at duty free?
If you’re a sports fan, it has to be some Miami Dolphins memorabilia. You’ll find sportswear, key chains and even blow-up dolphins in the duty free store; just don’t attempt to inflate them on the plane.
Are there any cashpoints?
Cash machines are available throughout the airport, plus, Bank of America have a branch located in Terminal D.
Where's the best place to eat?
There are so many food outlets at Miami International that you’d have to spend your entire holiday here to make the most of them. From hotdogs to sushi, every taste is catered for and because Floridians pride themselves on fresh, quality ingredients, they’re all good; we couldn’t possibly recommend just one.
The secret tip
Miami airport is incredibly busy. To minimise the amount of time you spend inside it, instead of outside enjoying your holiday, make sure you complete any and all travel documentation properly. Failure to do so is likely to result in extra security checks. Also, when at passport control, get in the queue nearest the USA Citizens desk; they’re processed much quicker and you’ll be moved over to that desk if there’s space.

Distance: 6 miles
You’ve travelled all the way to Miami, but with a rental car, you can reach Cuba in just a few miles. Well - almost Cuba.
Oleta River State Park
Distance: 19 miles
This is the largest urban park in Florida and is ideal for families and those who like to be kept active. Here, you can swim, cycle, hike, kayak or go fishing. For the more sedate, there’s sunbathing, picnics and wildlife to watch from the comfort of your deckchair or beach towel.
Key Biscayne
Distance: 15 miles
If the sunshine gets too much to bear, take a break from it. Grab your snorkel, mask and flippers and wade into the water from the beach to enter the Biscayne National Underwater Park. Among the coral reefs here you’ll find brightly coloured fish and turtles, or, you could take a boat trip further out to explore a shipwreck and its inhabitants. Just beware of crocodiles; they can be rather selfish and don’t like sharing their underwater playground.
