AND
IT’S ALL OVER!!! The polls have closed, the votes
counted and a President finally elected! Only now can
the beautiful city of Washington D.C. return to normal.
Washington
D.C. is USA’s capital city, and is located in
the District of Columbia (DC). This geographical location
is very unique in that until the late 18th century it
did not exist. Unlike all the other states already in
place, it was only when Maryland and Virginia agreed
to concede a 10-mile square area of land that the District
of Columbia (named after Christopher Columbus) was established.
This area soon became the country's permanent seat of
government.
Drawing
from its bureaucratic background, it is hardly surprising
that political monuments dominate Washington’s
skyline. Capitol Hill plays host to the United States
Congress, and receiving approx. 3.5 million visitors
per year, is considered by many to be one of the most
architecturally impressive buildings in the world. Within
walking distance can be found the Washington Monument,
paying tribute to George Washington and his role in
America’s struggle for independence. Finally,
but no means least, is a little known building situated
at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House.
In
addition to its many political attractions Washington
is full of culture, with numerous galleries, theatres,
restaurants, shops, and parks. Opened in 1907, Union
Square represents the gateway to America’s capital
city, and is not only one of the countries premiere
shopping areas but also one of Washington D.C.’s
most popular attractions.
With
so much to see and do, why not rent a hire car to take
full advantage of what Washington D.C. has to offer?
Starting from one of 4 car rental locations (all offering
fully comprehensive car hire), there is so much to see
and do outside city limits. With Philadelphia, New York,
Pittsburgh and Cleveland all within easy driving distance,
renting a car provides the perfect opportunity to spread
your wings and hit the open road.
